On this special occasion, the women in attendance had the opportunity to listen to lecturer Véronique Denys, tax specialist at our Québec office and the first Quebec woman to have climbed the highest summit on each of the seven continents. All participants also received a gift certificate for the Ferme Guyon—a Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton client company.

PRESS RELEASE – For Immediate Release

Sherbrooke, January 29, 2013 – This morning, Réal Létourneau, Interim President and CEO and Vice-President of the Eastern Townships region for Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton launched the festivities surrounding the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the firm’s Sherbrooke office under the theme 75 ans au cœur des générations à Sherbrooke.

It was in 1938 that Mr. Charles-Émile Bélanger founded this accounting firm in Sherbrooke, the true birthplace of the economic growth in Eastern Townships of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton’s current firm. Mr. Bélanger then partnered up with three other experts, Messrs. Philippe Saint-Jacques, Yvon Sirois and Pierre Comtois, to form the Bélanger Saint-Jacques Sirois Comtois firm, which developed rapidly in the region. In 1986, under the corporate name Bélanger Hébert, the firm became part of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton (then known as Raymond Chabot Martin Paré).

“Today we’re pleased to celebrate our contribution to Sherbrooke’s economic life and business community. Being at the heart of generations for 75 years has been made possible thanks to our clients and partners, but also to our talented and experienced team which, over the decades, has shared a single and unique desire: the success of local businesses. I wish to thank all of them for their trust and precious contribution,” stated Mr. Letourneau.

Accompanied by the President and founder of the Sherbrooke organization Murales Urbaines à Revitalisation d’Immeubles et de Réconciliation Sociale (M.U.R.I.R.S.), Mr. Serge Malenfant, the Vice-President of the Eastern Townships region proceeded with the unveiling–a first–of works by artists in the region and whose opening took place on that very evening at the Sherbrooke office (located at 445 King Street West, Suite 500) in the presence of clients, partners, dignitaries and members of the media.

“It seemed obvious for M.U.R.I.R.S. to be involved in the exhibition at the firm’s Sherbrooke office, which also marks the start of the celebrations for its 75 years of existence. For many years, this team has been promoting culture to the benefit of the region’s social and economic development. Since we ourselves have the mission of building the capacity of the area by producing mural works and fostering social relations, our partnership with Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton is an opportunity to prove, once again, the importance of art and business for the growth and reputation of a city such as ours,” added Mr. Malenfant.

During the press conference, Mr. Létourneau introduced a few social and community initiatives in which professionals from the firm will involve themselves in during the year, both to thank the population for its trust and to maintain the firm’s leadership and engagement within Sherbrooke’s society.

Among the activities mentioned, let us mention the honorary presidency of the Stentors evening provided by Advisory Partner, Christian Côté, the honorary co-presidency of the Red Cross cocktail provided by Partner, Chantal Lessard and honorary presidency of the Gala Reconnaissance Estrie 2013 provided by Mr. Létourneau.

This event also was an opportunity to introduce the web page and logo for the 75th anniversary of the Sherbrooke office. The web page (available only in French) contains, among other things, a historic as well as video testimonials and offers the office’s clients, partners and employees (former and current) the possibility of sharing their heartfelt stories. Whether it’s a story or comment on a service or a professional, we welcome all testimonials. By expressing themselves, people stand a chance of winning an iPad, whose draw will take place next November 30 among all the messages received.

A book recounting the highlights of the evolution of the firm founded by Charles-Émile Bélanger shall be published in the upcoming weeks to illustrate the contribution of the founder and his successors to the development of Sherbrooke and its region.

Mr. Létourneau finally wished to underline, “The whole team shares great pride in having supported several companies in the region and intends to continue offering quality services to them so that they will surpass themselves and perform even better. If Sherbrooke was capable of developing and innovating in such a manner, arguably, there’s a little bit of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton in there.” He concluded by saying: “Our community’s success depends on everyone’s contribution. This is why Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton’s team in Sherbrooke will be at the heart of generations for many more years to come! ”
