The Canada FinTech Forum, presented for the 5th consecutive year, will take place in Montréal on October 10 and 11, 2017 and Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton’s expertise will be showcased before some 1,500 expected participants.

President and CEO, Emilio B. Imbriglio, will lead the “Development of fintech ecosystems in world’s financial centres: different approaches to building buzz” panel. Also, Jonathan Hamel, CEO and Co-founder of Catallaxy, will give a conference on “Blockchain / Bitcoin, A Decentralized Revolution” while Francis Pouliot, Co-founder of Catallaxy and cryptographic research and assets specialist, will be one of the experts participating in the conference on “Smart contracts and financial services: A discussion on the transactional application of blockchain”. To complement our experts’ visibility, the firm will host a networking cocktail to end the forum.

Implementing a technological shift for clients

To carve a leading position in the use of artificial intelligence in financial services, Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton undertook a major technological shift last year by launching several solutions based on new technologies. Remember that the firm partnered with three young entrepreneurs to create Catallaxy, a blockchain expertise centre based in Montréal that will invest in the research, development, training and marketing of blockchain technology.

For four years now, Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton and La Grande Virée Artistique de Sherbrooke have joined forces to celebrate art through the Claude Métras Award, granted every year to honour young emerging artists. Among the 38 artists and 48 works submitted, the jury selected Guy Labbé, for his “Danseuse africaine” sculpture in red cedar. Guy also won the $500 cash prize awarded to the winner. The “public choice award” was jointly awarded to Naomie L’Archevêque-Carrière (Collège Mont-Notre-Dame) for her acrylic work “Vague à l’âme” and Samuel Flibotte for his clay, metal and acrylic sculpture “Mort noire”.

Unique venue for creators

Eastern Townships Vice-President Guy Fauteux said, “Encouraging up-and-coming artists is essential to the growth of society and culture represents a major economic development lever. We are very proud to have been offering creators a unique place for exhibiting their work since 1987.”

The next exhibit at the Sherbrooke office will highlight three artists: Adèle Blais, painter, Anne-Marie Auclair, painter and Michel Bornais, granite and metal sculptor. The public is invited to come discover their work all week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 455 King St. West, Suite 500.

Claude Métras: A lover of art and culture

Claude Métras, now retired from Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, worked for the firm for 35 years and played a significant role in numerous organizations such as the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra, Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science, the Société d’histoire de Sherbrooke and the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. He was also a Quebec representative on the Board of Trustees of the Fathers of Confederation Buildings Trust.

On September 25, 2017, La Presse+ published an article about Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton’s technology shift and LP Maurice, Busbud President, the firm’s external director.

Drawing inspiration from this different approach to governance, Joanne Desjardins, LL.B., MBA, ASC, CRHA, Partner in the firm Arsenal, published an article on LinkedIn on the benefits of diversity on boards of directors and the importance of daring to be different, to question and shake up the status quo. In short, an interesting article that underscores the firm’s excellent decision!
