Surplec HV wins the Mercure Entreprenariat-Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton

The ten years of this winning partnership have been an opportunity for the firm to become even more involved by offering this award, which recognizes the growth strategies deployed by businesses to achieve their full potential. It highlights the well-considered business planning approaches adopted for growth over time, which can translate into different strategies.

Speaking to about 800 guests gathered at the Palais des Congrès for the occasion, Emilio B. Imbriglio, President and CEO of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, presented this award to Surplec HV. This company, established in Sherbrooke over 27 years ago, specializes in medium-voltage and high-voltage switchgear.

It has stood out by its multiple expansions over the past year. These expansions include its association with WR Transformateurs, the construction of a medium-voltage dry-type transformer plant in Granby, the opening of a branch, and the construction of a medium-voltage plant in Edmonton, Alberta.

Young entrepreneurs: the solution to the challenge of the succession

Emilio B. Imbriglio took advantage of his time on stage to thank the Raymond Chabot Grant  Thornton employees and the fifteen Master’s students from different universities who supported them. Their rigorous efforts allowed a very successful evaluation of the many files submitted for the contest.

He also seized the opportunity to discuss a major challenge we must meet together: the challenge of entrepreneurship and the succession.

“Inspiring our young people to go into business is our collective duty, but above all, encouraging them to take over an existing business is a vital issue if we want to ensure the sustainability of our wealth creators. With the imminent retirement of one third of its entrepreneurs, Québec is about to experience the most sweeping change of senior management it has ever seen in its small and medium enterprises. One way to overcome this challenge is for each of us to succeed in conveying our passion, creativity and talent to the succession,” he exclaimed before this select audience, composed of entrepreneurs and well-known business and political personalities.

Among the cabinet ministers present that evening were Kathleen Weil, Minister of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion; Pierre Arcand, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister responsible for the Northern Plan; Jacques Daoust, Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Export Trade; and Jean-Denis Girard, Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development.
