Blockchain is a decentralized transaction record. Encrypted information is recorded in several locations simultaneously, making it impossible to falsify the data.

Louis Roy explained: “It offers highly secure, immutable data storage, that is anchored in time.” Mr. Roy and his colleagues at Catallaxy, a subsidiary of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, inaugurated BlockHouse, an international hub of excellence and expertise in applied cryptography, blockchain and distributed technologies, located in Montréal.

According to Les Grands de la comptabilité 2018 published by Les Affaires, Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton stands out as the firm that hired the most employees last year.

These 213 new employees represent a solid increase of 9.15% for the firm, which now has a total of 2,541 employees.

This growth results mainly from the new subsidiaries created, such as Operio, Taxo and Catallaxy and new services, with the purpose of responding more efficiently to the numerous, growing needs of local organizations.

In this article, President and CEO, Emilio B. Imbriglio, explains certain changes the firm has undergone.

“In recent years, we have changed the governance of our firm, which is turning 70, to be more agile,” says Mr. Imbriglio. “We cut the number of board members and management committee members by half. This enables us to make decisions much faster, thereby fostering support from the firm as a whole as well.”

Close to its clients, throughout Quebec

Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton also continues to have a strong presence in the regions and is close to all of its clients, as shown by the recent acquisitions of the firms of Jacques Dubé CA inc. in Baie-Comeau and Richard Dubreuil CPA inc. on the South Shore, as well as by new offices in Val-d’Or and Chicoutimi.

Emilio explains that: “A competitive advantage is something that sets your business apart from the competition and would cost your competitors too much to copy. This is exactly what we have with our 109 offices all across Quebec. […] It’s a huge advantage for us.”

Supporting its clients all over the world

In another article of Les Affaires relating to the supporting of local clients in foreign markets, the President and CEO mentions that the firm positioned certain executives and partners outside of the country to facilitate services to clients, but also to enable them to have motivating work experiences. He states that: “When a need arises, the person can contact a partner who has some international experience to be referred to an advisor, or they can contact one of our international business representatives.”

There’s no doubt that Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton is changing in order to remain a leader, that serves organizations and their managers throughout Quebec. The 2,500 firm professionals believe in the success of businesses and will continue to provide top quality services to foster the innovation and competitiveness of the economic drivers here in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.
