From September 23 to 26, 2012, our team of specialized audit experts in collaboration with Grant Thornton Canada reinforced its place among existing clients while setting itself apart with new international prospects at the Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) 2012 National Conference at the Montréal Hyatt Regency hotel. Under the theme, “Curiosity + Creativity = Success!”, the event featured two of our experts, Denis Lefort and Lyne Boissel, who showcased our Firm’s expertise with their conference on the subject of external quality evaluations, their main issues and the underlying IIA standards (Évaluations qualité externe : les principaux enjeux et les normes de l’IAI en cause).

Our kiosk attracted many visitors who participated in a contest to win an iPad. The winner was Pierre Charbonneau, Senior Internal Auditor of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (see photo below).

Furthermore, our clients were invited to an exclusive VIP evening event organized by RCGT at Ateliers & Saveurs in Old Montréal. As the tax increase and certain retroactive measures currently being considered by the new Quebec government would generate tax changes for Quebec taxpayers and businesses, some media outlets have called on Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton tax experts to better grasp the scope of such changes, if adopted.

On September 27, 2012, Eric Labelle, Tax Partner, shared his knowledge on a panel led by Stéphane Langdeau on RDS’s Antichambre show. For his part, Tax Partner Jean-François Thuot provided observations in La Presse (on September 25 and October 2), while Tax Partners Pierre Jones and Norman Angell commented on the issue in articles in Finance et Investissement and Le Soleil.

This media exposure attests once again to our experts‘ outstanding professionalism.

For the second year in a row, Raymond Chabot has received the CONSUMER CHOICE AWARD, Trustee category, for the Montréal region!

This prestigious title was awarded following the results of a Léger Marketing survey, which classifies the best companies as chosen by consumers and businesses in the industry. This is the only organization in North America to recognize business excellence by conducting a research that surveys both the consumer and business community with statistical accuracy.

Our Firm’s human resources consulting expertise was again showcased through our participation in the human resource recruitment project for the new industrial project being carried out by Koniambo Nickel SAS, a subsidiary of the Xstrata Group, in New Caledonia.

Our participation in this project was made possible due to the long list of achievements of our Raymond Chabot Human Resources (RCHR) team and Huguette R. Boulanger, Partner in our Sherbrooke office and Manager of Advisory Services for the Eastern Townships region.

“The Experience of a Lifetime”: A job searching tool

In addition to conventional recruitment activities, the RCHR team created the microsite L’expérience d’une vie (Experience of a lifetime–in French only) which was specially designed to bring awareness of this major project to potential candidates interested in this unique experience. This Internet site serves as a reference tool for discovering New Caledonia, the industrial complex, the experience offered by Koniambo Nickel SAS and the remarkable employment found there.

High technology in a tropical environment

Once the construction is completed, Koniambo Nickel SAS will operate a pyrometallurgical plant, a power plant and other complementary infrastructures, including a private deepwater port, an 11-km overland conveyor and a seawater desalination plant. The first ore processing will begin in the second half of 2012, with a gradual increase in power to eventually achieve annual production of 60,000 tonnes of nickel by 2014.
