On March 26, 2014, the President and CEO of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, Emilio B. Imbriglio, was the guest of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie du Haut-St-Maurice. While visiting La Tuque, he met with the region’s business for a luncheon discussion.

He invited them to be daring, innovate and seek to achieve their full potential!

In a context where Quebec finds itself mired in a sluggish economic situation whereas its debt level requires growth, Mr. Imbriglio proposed a few ideas to stimulate our economic development.

“Quebec must have a solid foundation, an environment that favours wealth creation and respects its various member communities. This environment must rest on four powerful pillars: education, employment, entrepreneurship and exploiting resources, which in turn will reduce our public debt and give us the means to achieve our goal to better support our economy.” Mr. Imbriglio maintained.

From the perspective of these 6 E’s, he proposed six key ideas supported by both precise measures and fact-based reflections to revitalize our economy and help it grow.

Here are a few of the measures Mr. Imbriglio presented regarding the four pillars:

  • Entrepreneurship: make business transfers fair; create an innovation tax credit.
  • Employment: consult with experts to reduce or eliminate corporate income tax; create business/university incubators.
  • Exploiting resources: develop a framework that is favourable to investment; reduce the tax burden.
  • Education: reintroduce the economics course in high school; better train and attract talent/immigrants.

At the end of this dynamic conference, the region’s entrepreneurs were invited to ask the speaker questions, which led to very productive exchanges and generated keen regional media interest: L’Écho de La Tuque (article 1 and article 2) and Le Nouvelliste.

In closing, Mr. Imbriglio added, “We need to promote leadership among youth. We need more regional forums to encourage entrepreneurship in the next generation, such as the the École d’entrepreneurship de Beauce […]. Quebec is in a leadership crisis. We have to spark the entrepreneurial passion in tomorrow’s decision-makers.  Let’s give them a taste for success!”
