The City of Montréal’s recent announcement that waste water had been dumped into the Saint Lawrence River has made the public aware of the struggle that many municipalities have regarding waste water management, said Gontran Bage, Manager, Strategic and Performance Consultancy Group. Bage authored an article (see page 6) in the last edition of the Association des directeurs généraux des municipalités du Québec’s official magazine wherein he emphasizes that with aging infrastructures, cities will tend to increase their water system improvements in coming years and need to employ sufficient standards and tools to manage these systems.

The results of the CPA, CA path of the Uniform Evaluation (UFE-CFE) for chartered professional accountants—the entrance requirement for the accounting profession in Canada—were made public today (December 4).

In the December 2015 edition of Bottom Line magazine, Emilio B. Imbriglio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, proposes ideas that that would usher in major changes to the Quebec tax system, namely, alleviating the SME tax burden. Among other changes, he suggests following Manitoba’s reform lead and eliminating the business tax for enterprises with earnings under $500,000.

As of January 1, 2016, the Partner in Charge of the Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Magog office, Jean Gaouette, will take on the clients of accountant Alain Langlois. After 46 years in the business, Alain is retiring, and wishes to have his clients continue to be served by trusted, qualified, responsible and available professionals.

Under the agreement, Jean and his team will be responsible for all of Alain’s clients, i.e., for both individuals and organizations, and provide bookkeeping and tax return preparation services. They will also be available to advise and assist them in managing their business.
