National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day: Becoming an Ally
As part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our firm wishes to emphasize the key role that allies play in eliminating prejudice and building bridges within the workplace.
This interview (in French) gives us an insight into the value of active listening and open dialogue about our different realities.
A bond forged over time
Paul John Murdoch, Grand Chief of the Cree Nation, reflects on his friendship of over 25 years with Sylvain Faucher, a partner in our firm. They first met during a business collaboration when one was a law student and the other a junior auditor.
Over the years, their shared experiences have reinforced a strong and lasting relationship. They remind us of the importance of raising awareness about cultural differences and how mutual understanding stems from learning about each other’s history.
“It takes a lot of adaptability because, when you come and work here with us, you are entering a different country even though, technically, we all live in the same province,” notes Paul John.
“Yes, and what I admire the most about […] the Cree people is the fact that they don’t worry about everything, unlike non-Indigenous people like me who are always needlessly stressing over a bunch of small stuff,” adds Sylvain.
We invite you to listen to this inspiring conversation (in French only) and, so we can all understand each other better, we hope that you too will consider becoming an ally.
