Be aware of the applicable taxes

Depending on the sales jurisdiction, your business will have different tax obligations, including those related to sales and use taxes. If you plan to do business in other provinces and territories in Canada, be sure to familiarize yourself with the applicable rules.

Even when conducting business online, you must determine the place of transaction. There are several nuances to consider.

The European Union (EU) is considered the world’s second-largest economy and thus provides access to a vast market of more than 500 million consumers. If you’re looking to expand into Europe to export products or offer services there, make sure to familiarize yourself with your tax obligations from the outset, particularly regarding consumption taxes.

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between EU member states and Canada exempts the majority of exported goods from customs duties, but other tax obligations—including value-added tax (VAT)—must still be met.
